National Burn Awareness Week February 5-11, 2023

Every year across the country, more than 450,000 children and adults receive injuries from burns that need some level of medical treatment – 40,000 of which require hospitalization. In Illinois, residential fires and scalds continue to be a major factor in who burn injuries are received. Burn Awareness Week is an opportunity to mobilize burn, fire, and life safety educators to unite in sharing a common burn awareness and prevention message in the communities. It also provides a forum to highlight organizations, such as Camp I Am Me, and the support programs hosted throughout the course of the year.

Camp I Am Me Support Programs

Camp I Am Me holds various programs throughout the year to help support burn survivors in their recovery. In addition to the organization’s signature Summer Camp program, Camp I Am Me also hosts multiple Family Day events across the state, provides Young Adult Support, as well as provides scholarships to survivors to attend an international burn survivor conference. Programs have also grown online as well. The Adult Virtual Support Group has also been added to the list of annual programs. As a result of relationships with other support organizations, opportunities are also provided to those in Illinois to participate in these other programs across the country. All of these programs help provide a level of support to survivors of every age, allowing individuals and families to cope with and manage their injuries and emotional distress in difficult times.

Prevention & Education

Camp I Am Me remains committed to providing educational programs and resources throughout the state of Illinois. These tools are available at no-cost as a result of fundraising efforts and donations received. In an effort to address fire losses, Camp I Am Me brings fire safety public awareness and education programs to fire departments, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and children and adults throughout the state.

Support Camp I Am Me

By supporting Camp I Am Me through volunteering or a donation, additional assistance can be provided to burn survivors through new and expanded activities. With each gift received, Camp I Am Me will continue to near its goals of eliminating destructive fires and burn injuries, while also supporting those who have been adversely affected by a burn injury.
