What a wonderful day today! The return of a “normal” Fire Apparatus Parade (presented by Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Initiative), Appreciation Day, and Fun Fair was a joy for everyone involved! Dozens of fire trucks, engines, and command vehicles descended on Camp Duncan early in the morning as campers participated in their first activity period. When the parade was ready to roll, campers, volunteers, and staff were loaded onto the vehicles and given a trip around the campgrounds, waving to visitors and campers from day camp and Camp Independence which resides at Camp Duncan as well. Glenview Firefighters were cooking up burgers and hotdogs as more and more guests, supporters, and additional volunteers arrived for the festivities. As everyone ate under the grand tent (presented by 1-800-BoardUp of Rolling Meadows), IFSA President Jim Kreher addressed the group to thank everyone involved in making camp the best week of the year! Donors had the opportunity for photo opps and highlight their fundraising efforts for the IFSA and Camp “I Am Me.” Approximately 60 additional volunteers joined us to set-up, manage, and tear-down the Fun Fair (presented by Johnson Controls). Always a camper favorite, the children had the opportunity to play on rides and, have shaved ice (thanks to Kona Ice), and play carnival-like games – getting loads and loads of prizes to taken home! In the evening, with fuel still in the tank, cabins played CoCo Chaos throughout the campsite and closed out the day with a floating campfire, an opportunity for everyone to reflect on the past and look to the future.
