CRR Week Social Media Contest Reaches the Masses

In recognition of National Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week, which took place mid-January, the IFSA provided social media messaging to stress the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in homes.

The social media contest was geared towards Illinois fire departments. By having the agencies “share” the messages on social media they are supporting the IFSA mission of promoting fire safety and burn prevention, educating the residents and others of the importance of smoke alarms and CO detectors, and therefore were eligible to receive contest awards from the Alliance.

In total, the week-long social media campaign posts were shared 209 times and reached more than 14,910 people.

The grand prize winner (30 10-year battery smoke alarms and 20 10-year CO detectors) was Lemont Fire Protection District. Additional winners included Braidwood FD, Elburn Countryside FPD, Lake Villa FPD, Niles FD, South Jacksonville FD, and Westmont FD, all of which received 15 10-year CO detectors. These alarms and detectors will now be able to further the communities risk reduction programs by providing the devices to underserved or high-risk residences.

A special thanks goes out to IFSA support, First Alert, for the donation of carbon monoxide detectors to help support this education and prevention effort!
