IFSA Announces Launch of Virtual Support Group for Survivors

Beginning in February, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance will begin offering monthly support group meetings for the burn survivor community. In an effort to support in-person programs that are held throughout the year, these virtual support sessions will allow Camp “I Am Me” campers (current and former) and other survivors of all ages to come together in a safe and accepting environment where they can feel comfortable sharing their experiences.

The sessions will be led by IFSA staff, volunteers, and special guests and will have a mix of purposeful activities and discussions through which participants can develop social and coping skills – while supporting one another.

The kick-off session will take place on Wednesday February 10th and will be for young and old survivors as well as caregivers. It will serve as an informational session and to provide open input and feedback on what type of discussion topics can be held throughout the year.

All sessions will be held on the second Wednesday of each month in 2021. Sessions for 18+ year old survivors and caregivers will be held on odd months (March, May, July, September, & November) and group meetings for 6-17 year old survivors will be held on even months (April, June, August, October, and December).
