Camper Tayvon and I had the incredible opportunity to attend a burn camp organized by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). Each year, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance teams up with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Foundation to send one Camp “I Am Me” camper and counselor to the International Burn Camp in Washington, D.C. Dozens of teen burn survivors from across the United States and Canada make the trip east for the one-week program led by professional fire fighters and paramedics who know the challenges these remarkable children face.

After four years in the making, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance served as host to the International Association of Burn Camps 15th Workshop. The conference was held at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca and welcomed over 70 burn camp professionals, volunteers, and burn survivors from 18 burn camps across the country for networking, education, and comradery.
