2022 Camp I Am Me Blog – Sunday, June 19th

It was an absolutely beautiful day to kick-off the 31st annual camp for young burn survivors in Illinois – Camp “I Am Me.” Ironically, 31 campers from across the state and beyond joined us at YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside to begin the greatest week of the year! There was tons of enthusiasm as 2022’s camp is the first “back to normal” camp since 2019.

Over the years, camp has made requests to fire departments across the state for extra FD t-shirts. These shirts are provided to campers and volunteers on the last day of camp as a special gift and a reminder of the tremendous support provided by the Illinois Fire Service. Applications Now Available for Camp “I Am Me” – Illinois’ Camp for Young Burn Survivors

The Illinois Fire Safety Alliance has opened the application period for its summer camp program, for children 8-17 living with a burn-related injury. For over 30 years, Camp “I Am Me” has been made available to families at no cost, giving children and teens the opportunity to gain critical life-skills including self-confidence, independence, gaining greater self-esteem, and creating lifelong friendships in an inclusive and accessible environment.

Help Fulfill 2022's Camp Needs List

In order to make Illinois' camp for young burn survivors the best possible experience for both campers and volunteers, there is a wide variety of equipment and supplies required. From fun events and activities to essentials for a medical camp and being out in the woods, there are many items that can be purchased and provided as an in-kind donation to help make a difference. All items donated to the IFSA are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The From Tragedy to Triumph Foundation has created a new opportunity for the burn survivor community. The Caper Brown Memorial Scholarship supported by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance provides funds for those with financial need when they are accepted into an accredited post-secondary institution.

IFSA’s Golf Classic Raises $20K for Camp “I Am Me”

The Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s first-ever Camp “I Am Me” Golf Classic was held at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling on September 22nd. The fundraiser was able to net $20,000 to support Illinois’ camp for young burn survivors while treating guests to a wonderful day of lunch, dinner, golf, and prizes!

Camp I Am Me Seeking Volunteers to Make a Difference in Young Survivors’ Lives

The Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s signature program, Camp “I Am Me,” provides a special and unforgettable one-week camp experience for children and teenagers who have experienced injuries from burns. 2022’s camp will represent the 31st year of Illinois’ camp for young burn survivors and the IFSA is looking for compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to help during the entire week of camp – in the cabins, at the various activities, and having just as great of an experience as each of the 70 campers!
