Camp I Am Me, OSFM, & Millikin University Join Forces with The Nick Project to Promote College Campus Fire Safety

The Project was initially presented verbally to educate the students of risks of fires and how to prevent them. Now years later and with the help of the Decatur community, Millikin University, Camp I Am Me, and the State Fire Marshals Office, this initiative is continuing to supply students with free fire safety equipment – including fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and even escape ladders.

Camp I Am Me has been providing a scholarship opportunity to burn survivors and their family members from Illinois for numerous years. Updated IL Smoke Alarm Law Goes Into Effect January 1st

In 2017, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance worked with the General Assembly to pass a law which will require Illinois residents to replace their old smoke alarms with the type that has a long-term, 10-year sealed battery beginning January 1, 2023. This would apply to residents that are still using alarms with removable batteries or alarms that are not hardwired.

I Am Me Camper, Counselor Participate in International Burn Camp

Each year, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance teams up with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Foundation to send one Camp “I Am Me” camper and counselor to the International Burn Camp in Washington, D.C. Dozens of teen burn survivors from across the United States and Canada make the trip east for the one-week program led by professional fire fighters and paramedics who know the challenges these remarkable children face.

IFSA Hosts International Burn Camp Conference

After four years in the making, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance served as host to the International Association of Burn Camps 15th Workshop. The conference was held at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca and welcomed over 70 burn camp professionals, volunteers, and burn survivors from 18 burn camps across the country for networking, education, and comradery.
