Daylight Saving Time Reminder Carries New Fire Safety Message

Due to the updated Illinois Smoke Alarm Law, residents encouraged to “Change your clock, and check or replace your alarms.” When residents change their clocks to spring ahead one hour for Daylight Saving Time (DST) this coming Sunday, March 12, Illinois’ updated Smoke Alarm Law will now influence how citizens have checked their safety alarms

Updated IL Smoke Alarm Law Goes Into Effect January 1st

In 2017, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance worked with the General Assembly to pass a law which will require Illinois residents to replace their old smoke alarms with the type that has a long-term, 10-year sealed battery beginning January 1, 2023. This would apply to residents that are still using alarms with removable batteries or alarms that are not hardwired.

Nearly 40 Volunteers Promote Fire Safety at Illinois State Fair

August 19th was the IFSA Day at the State Fair, in which the Alliance hosts volunteers at the fire service tent to promote fire safety and burn prevention to fair-goers. This year, nearly 40 volunteers from all across the state, and beyond, were in attendance to help promote the mission of the organization.
